    Only international students who are traveling from a Non-Visa Waiver country will need to obtain a United States travel or tourist visa to attend these programs. International students entering the country who are from a Visa Waiver country will need to formally apply through the United States ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization).   • What kind of workshops will we be participating in during the Game Design program? Do we get to create a game in the Game Design program?
    Yes! You’ll walk away from the camp with a video game that you created with your team, which you can add to your portfolio! Games will be conceptualized by teams and guided to completion with the help of our instructors and pre-built game assets. You’ll learn about the full life cycle of video game development—from conception to launch—then see your game come to life. Finished projects are presented at our closing dinner party so that everyone can share and celebrate!
  • What kind of transportation can I expect? Is the cost of transportation included in the program?
    You’ll be provided with private chartered bus transportation throughout the duration of the program. The cost of transportation is included in your tuition. However, day program students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from campus each day.
  • What are the main differences between the Los Angeles and Seattle camps?
    While the individual instructors or game company site visits might vary between the LA and Seattle camps, both offer the same focus on behind-the-scenes engagement with the industry and teaching by video game professionals. Both programs also offer a full slate of great local activities tailored to their respective locations, so choosing between them might come down to which city you’re most excited to check out!
  • What are the living arrangements like? Will I have a roommate?
    The University of Washington and University of Southern California dorms are fully equipped with Wi-Fi and laundry facilities, drinks, and snacks, in addition to the program's exclusive Lounge which is stocked with TV’s, PS4’s, and Wii U’s. You’ll have a roommate, but don’t worry—you and your roommate are matched based on compatibility. If you have a roommate request, please be sure to note that on your application or send us an email to let us know. The dorms host two students per room and trained chaperones will live with you on the same floor.
  • What should I be sure to bring on this trip?
    Once registered, our partner organization will send out a packing list via email to help you know what to bring.
  • Do I need to bring anything special for class?
    Yes, you’ll need to bring a laptop for classwork. It must meet the minimum system requirements to run Unity, which can be found here. If you need to rent a laptop for camp, please send us an email. The laptop rental fee is $75.
  • What software will I need?
    Throughout the camp, you’ll be working with the Unity game engine. You’ll need a laptop that can run Unity in order to complete the Game Experience coursework. The minimum system requirements can be found here. Feel free to download and test out Unity Personal, which is free for students.
  • Will there be free time to explore the city?
    Yes, there is free time, but it’s always in a structured environment. For example, when you will be taken to a shopping mall, you will receive cash for lunch so you can choose where to eat with your friends. You’ll get a certain amount of time to explore the mall while the team remains nearby.
  • Will there be laundry service at the University of Washington and the University of Southern California?
    Yes, there are laundry machines located in your dorm. You will be provided with a laundry card so that you can do your laundry as needed to stay clean and comfortable throughout the program.
  • Do I need to have any specific knowledge about the video game industry to apply? Do I need to know how to code?
    Nope! One of the great things about the Game Experience is that it introduces you to a variety of concepts, skills, and techniques while giving you insight on what it takes to make it in the world of video games. No matter what your level of experience is, you'll have a place in this program

    Depending on which program you choose, you will have the opportunity to participate in workshops throughout the program where you can explore anything from styling your own looks to designing your own garments.
