AREAS OF EXPERTISE IN COLLEGE
At Northwestern University, I had the time of my life studying in the communications and film department! My 2 favorite classes were 1950s American Cinema and Studies in Disney Television. My career at Northwestern took a heavy research and writing focus, and I wrote my senior thesis on Barbie and her role as a “spokeswoman” for non-profits in American media. Outside of the classroom, I loved playing the clarinet for the Northwestern Marching Band and producing promotional films for the on campus theater companies.
Currently, I am a film teacher at a secondary school in Chicago, Illinois. I teach English, journalism, documentary filmmaking, screenwriting, film fundamentals, and public speaking. I also coach the speech team and supervise the online student newspaper. Before starting my job in Chicago, I spent a year at the film school at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore teaching students about radio production and film, and also counseling students on applying to universities in the United States.
WHAT COLLEGES SEEK
Colleges recruiting students for their media programs are looking for strong storytellers and writers. Any college program can teach someone how to edit film or a newspaper layout, but storytelling is a creative talent!

During high school, I started the Japanese Culture Appreciation Club. I was obsessed with traveling and understanding different parts of the world, so I got a group of friends together to start the organization! We held cultural meals, watched Japanese films, and visited the Japanese Culture Museum in Chicago. We also ate a lot of sushi!

COLLEGE ACCESS CONSULTING EXPERIENCE
During the summer, I am a private ACT/SAT tutor and college application mentor for students in Chicago. I also have taught college writing and essay workshops at the Latin School of Chicago and serve as an essay advisor for my students during the school year. My favorite part of helping students apply to college is also reviewing writing and film portfolios!
