PERSONAL UNIVERSITY APPLICATION EXPERIENCE

AREAS OF EXPERTISE IN COLLEGE
At Davidson College, I focused on American Literature, earning Honors for my thesis about theories of time in the poetry of Robert Penn Warren. For my first two years, I also planned to major in Economics; I studied abroad in Morocco, developing fluency in French and conversational ability in colloquial Arabic, and I shifted my out-of-major foci to History, Religion, and Art History.
After college, I taught at Deerfield Academy and St. George’s School while pursuing my Ms. Ed. From the University of Pennsylvania. As a high school teacher, I applied my interdisciplinary interests to a diverse range of English and Humanities courses. I also continued to travel around the world, expanding the disciplinary and geography diversity of my intellectual explorations.
UNIQUE HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCES
At Phillips Exeter Academy, I pursued a unique academic course while focusing on athletics at the highest level. I exhausted Academy offerings in English, History, and advanced French, but I also pursued courses in environmental science and religion.
A varsity rower, I won two New England Championships and earned second place at the US Rowing Junior National Championships; in the off season, I played hockey and ran winter track. In the last two years of high school, I served as an Opinion Columnist for the school’s award-winning paper, developing a lateblooming interest in public writing.

COLLEGE ACCESS CONSULTING EXPERIENCE
As a teacher at elite schools in New England, I worked with a diverse collection of students who were motivated to matriculate at great colleges. I read essays in the dormitory, talked students through critical decisions throughout the process, and helped students think about which schools best matched their interests and dispositions. I worked to get to know each student with whom I worked to inform my advising activity, and many new students began introducing themselves to me to ask for help.
