Fashion Design Programs

Students on this program explore the apparel industry and engage in hands-on workshops designed to stimulate creativity, artistic expression, and ideas for a career in fashion. They will learn how to conceptualize ideas through fashion sketching, creative design, draping, pattern drafting, and fabric. Whether they want to design for an existing company or create their own collection, students will learn the skills designers use to develop innovative and original designs.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • BRANDING: Understand how to design for a target market and establish your brand.

  • DESIGN PRINCIPLES AND ELEMENTS: Learn the design principles and elements used to develop a creative and cohesive collection.

  • COLOR THEORY: Understand color theory and the psychological and emotional connections behind colors.

  • FASHION SKETCHING: Learn drawing skills, proportions and techniques for sketching the nine-head figure. Learn how to sketch intricate details to elevate your designs from basic to fashion styles.

  • FASHION TRENDS PAST AND PRESENT: Learn how past fashion trends can generate inspiration for future designs.

  • DRAPING AND FIT: Learn draping with 2D sketches and 3D fabric draping

  • GARMENT CUTTING AND CONSTRUCTION: Learn the basics of garment construction to create a cut and sewn garment.

  • PATTERN DRAFTING: Understand the basics of pattern drafting using a basic block.

  • FABRICS/TEXTILES: Understand fabric, color, and texture as it relates to apparel design.

Explore your passion

Students apply their creative and collaborative talents in a team project that challenges them to develop a product line for an existing company that is consistent with its brand profile. The projects introduce a range of skills and concepts, including branding, market research, trend forecasting, creative design, mood boards, theme concepts, color palettes, flat sketching, fabrics, trims, and details to create a cohesive collection for a specific target consumer and season.
