AREAS OF EXPERTISE IN COLLEGE
At Princeton, I studied the sociology of the complex relationship between African Americans and theater. For my senior thesis, I looked at African Americans in theater from past, present, future lenses. The ‘past’ looked at the history of African Americans in theater while for the ‘present’ I interviewed professional actors and audiences at different shows. For the 'future' section, I proposed a template for a theater company that attempts to reconcile some of the issues noted to provide more opportunities for African Americans in theater.
I have had the privilege of working at a number of theaters including the Public Theater in New York City and the McCarter Theater in Princeton. In the future, I would love to see the theater company that I envisioned in my senior thesis come to fruition. Outside of my academic endeavors, I love to sing, play volleyball, dance, watch television, work out, and have conversations with friends.
UNIQUE HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCES
Halfway through my high school experience, my parents announced that we were going to be moving to a different state, leaving behind my beloved high school and community. This experience challenged me to rediscover myself within a new environment. It was during this experience that I reaffirmed my passion for theater, teaching, and learning, a necessary lesson going into my junior year and arguably, the most challenging year of my high school experience.
WHAT COLLEGES SEEK
Generally, colleges want to see that you have challenged yourself academically. But I also think that colleges, especially top schools, want to see that you have excelled outside the classroom, in your communities, in your clubs, and in your personal lives. They want to find strong students to add to their campuses while also benefiting from the college.
